So recently my mum threw a fit over my decision to have a private wedding and no celebrations with anyone (the reason being I did not want any kind of stress or drama). It’s not unusual for her to have a bit of a meltdown, fire off her grievances, give you the silent treatment for a week & then contact you as if nothing has happened. She has done exactly this. Been incredibly rude about how I’ve rejected and hurt her, and then a week later, acting as if nothing was said.
It’s now my dad’s birthday & there will be a dinner, which me & my husband are invited to. But we still feel hurt by her outburst & don’t really want to spend time with her right now. And there will be another 4 events in the next 6 weeks. So we can avoid this one, but will be expected to show up at some point.
AITA if I say we’re not going to attend? And is it worse if I say we’re not coming because of her behaviour?
